ARGOVIA
ABOUT US
Argovia is a Colombian-Venezuelan rock band based in Bogotá, Colombia. It was founded as a project in 2013 by multi-instrumentalist Ani Guillén and keyboardist and music producer Carlos Arminio.
From 2013 to 2019
The project began with the creation of a homemade EP called "Lost Letters," drawing influences from Ayreon, Lacuna Coil, The Gathering, and Dream Theater. Exploring sounds ranging from alternative rock to symphonic metal, "Lost Letters" was an exploration to find the band's distinctive sound. This effort earned them a nomination for EP of the year at the Unión Rock Show awards.
Later, the band started producing "Distant Present" (2017), representing a search for a new sound while still closely tied to symphonic rock.
2020 - Now
After completing "Distant Present", significant lineup changes occurred in 2019, leading to a tumultuous period compounded by pandemic challenges, causing Ani and Carlos to put ARGOVIA on an indefinite break.
In late 2022, Ani (Guitar and Vocals) and Carlos (Keyboards) decided to revive the project, drawing inspiration from bands like Porcupine Tree, Riverside, The Gathering, VOLA and Karnivool. They aimed to attract a wider audience with a rock sound that still resonates with progressive fans.
The result is a completely renewed production, blending elements of progressive rock and modern metal. With this mature and powerful sound, ARGOVIA welcomed new members, including Felipe Candia, former drummer of the Chilean progressive rock band Aisles, who performed remote drum tracking for the new production and Nicolás Paredes playing the bass. The mix was handled by Alejandro Londoño (Cultura Tres, Sepultura, Delain) and mastering by Steve Kitch (The Pineapple Thief), moving slightly away from the symphonic and digital towards a more mature, raw rock sound. ARGOVIA plans to release this new studio material in 2024.
